Born 2 Shine Family Day Care Philosophy
At Born 2 Shine Family Day Care, we are committed to providing high-quality education and care services for children through play-based learning in a nurturing, home-based environment. Our approach meets the needs of the community, families, and children by supporting their growth through meaningful exploration and engagement.
We respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we work, learn, and play. We pay our respects to Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Our philosophy guides our interactions with children, families, educators, and the broader community. We believe that:
Children learn and grow best through play.
Learning is fostered through interactions, relationships, and experiences with others and the environment.
Every child has the right to feel safe, secure, and supported, and to be recognised for their individuality and agency.
Children are capable, confident learners with the right to freedom of choice and belief.
Nurturing the whole child—focusing on their identity, community connection, wellbeing, learning confidence, and communication skills—is essential to their development.
A risk-based approach effectively promotes the health, safety, and wellbeing of children. We understand our responsibility to protect all children from harm.
The environment is the “third teacher” and plays a vital role in supporting children's development.
A thoughtfully planned, safe, and secure environment encourages children's independence, strengthens their agency, and supports deep and meaningful learning experiences.
Our program fosters environmental awareness, encouraging children to develop responsibility for the world around them and empowering them to contribute to a sustainable future.
Strong, reciprocal partnerships with families are essential in achieving the best outcomes for children.
Embracing the inclusion of all children and families enhances opportunities to explore diversity and learn about the world, enriching our service.
Active participation in the local community nurtures children’s understanding of belonging and supports family wellbeing.
Our commitment to child safety and protection includes:
Adhering to the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 (NSW) and the National Quality Standard (Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health and Safety) to ensure all children in our care are safe and protected from harm.
Complying with the National Law and National Regulations, including mandatory reporting requirements, to respond appropriately to any concerns regarding child safety.
Implementing the Child Safe Standards (NSW) to create a culture of safety, inclusion, and empowerment for all children.
Maintaining up-to-date Working with Children Checks (WWCC) for all educators and adults involved in the care environment.
Ensuring that educators receive ongoing training in child protection and are aware of their legal and ethical obligations.
Embedding robust policies and procedures to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, and harm.
Promoting open communication where children feel empowered to speak up and express concerns.
Encouraging children to understand their rights and providing them with age-appropriate tools to develop protective behaviours and resilience.
Creating safe physical and emotional environments where supervision is active and continuous, and risk is appropriately assessed and managed.
Supporting culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and children from all backgrounds.
At Born 2 Shine Family Day Care, our philosophy is embedded in everything we do, shaping our practices, programs, and relationships every day. We take pride in being a child-safe organisation committed to the highest standards of care, protection, and education.
